Base Liaison Officer (Sydney) for Air Force Centenary

Introduction - Base Liaison Officer (Sydney) for Air Force Centenary
G’day Sirs, Ma’ams, All,
My name is FLTLT Eamon Hamilton, and I am the Sydney Base Liaison Officer for the Air Force Centenary. I am covering Richmond, Glenbrook, DEOH, and other RAAF personnel posted into the wider Sydney area.
The Base Liaison Officers work to the AF2021 Deputy Director of Community Engagement, and for the most part are Reservists (like myself). I have worked with many of you as an APS Public Affairs Officer for Air Mobility Group, and am still employed in this role – however, you’ll regularly see me in uniform undertaking AF2021 duties.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be reaching out to Units/Sections to brief them on AF2021, and start providing an idea on how it will affect them. Whilst it’s tempting to view the Centenary as still being “two years away” and “my replacement’s problem”, the reality is that expectations need to be set now, so that we can plan/rehearse/execute come January 2021.
The AF2021 Website has a good FAQ (, but the following is some additional background:
Where do I get AF2021 information?
AF2021 Toolkits will soon be available with branding, talking points, and other items in the coming weeks. In the meantime, visit (Intranet), or Or contact myself, or email
What should I be doing now?
Please advise BLOs of any Community Engagement activity you are involved with as a RAAF member, or that your workplace is supporting. This can range from school talks, unit tours, engagement with local government or associations, or other public events. I’ve already engaged WOFF Wheatley, ABCPs and Executive staff for lists of events we formally support, but I welcome any information about other activities.
What will the Base Liaison Officer do?
Initially, we will provide a summary of all Community Engagement activities conducted by the RAAF, regardless of whether they’re related to the Centenary, up through to the AF2021 Community Engagement Team. This in turn provides RAAF with a better understanding of how Air Force is already engaged with the community, and how it might be used to celebrate the Centenary.
In the meantime, Base Liaison Officers will be providing information about Centenary activities to their bases, reaching out for volunteers or candidates to support events, and involved with other community engagement planning for the Centenary.
What else can I do?
Any ideas and suggestions for how we mark the centenary at a local level are still welcome. Please share with us what you want to see. With these suggestions, please consider how they may be resourced and supported.
What can you do for me?
I can meet with units to discuss with them on how we expect AF2021 will impact Sydney-based units, and what they can do to celebrate this anniversary. The wider Air Force plan is being consolidated now, but for the time being I am happy to bring units/sections/workplaces on what to expect.
